Turn background music off/on A native of Northport, NY, Dana Zenobi recently appeared with Austin Lyric Opera in the American premiere of Philip Glass' Waiting for the Barbarians. She was deemed "the chief vocal pleasure "of Lyric Opera Cleveland's The Pirates of Penzance, and named "a soprano to listen for" by the Cleveland press. As a young artist with Lyric Opera Cleveland, Ms. Zenobi also appeared in the first production of Mark Adamo's Little Women directed by the composer, and collaborated with composer H. Leslie Adams in a concert performance of his song literature. The Houston Chronicle praised her "emotionally intense and technically inspired singing" as Konstanze [Die Entfürung aus dem Serail], performed with Opera in the Heights. Ms. Zenobi is equally at home as Donna Elvira [Don Giovanni], which she has sung with The Living Opera, Opera in the Heights, and Opera in the Ozarks. Other notable roles include Alinda [Giasone] with the Aspen Opera Theater Center, Violetta [La Traviata], Mimi [La Bohème], and Adina [L'Elisir d'Amore], which earned her an Austin Critic's Table Award Nomination. At home on the concert stage, Ms. Zenobi recently appeared with Viola by Choice chamber music ensemble in performance of Lowell Liebermann's Struwwelpeterlieder. This season, the young soprano looks forward to several engagements on the concert circuit, which include art song recitals at Duke University with pianist David Heid, and at Southwestern University with pianist David Utterback. She also will appear with the Austin Civic Chorus in a performance of Schubert's Mass in G and Vivaldi's Gloria. An active competitor, Ms. Zenobi won the voice division of the Entergy Young Texas Artists Music Competition and second place in the National Federation of Music Clubs' prestigious Biennial Young Artist Competition. She has been selected as a finalist or semi-finalist in numerous competitions, including the Center for Contemporary Opera, the Orpheus Vocal Competition, Opera Birmingham Competition, and the Austin Wednesday Morning Music Club Fielder Career Development Grant Competition. Her concert credits include the soprano solos in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorale (McAllen, TX), as well as the Haydn Lord Nelson Mass, Fauré Requiem, and Schubert Mass in G. She holds a Master's Degree from the University of Texas at Austin where she studied with Martha Deatherage, and a Bachelor's Degree from Duke University where was a student of Susan Dunn. She currently resides in Austin, Texas, where she has recently joined the voice faculty of Southwestern University. She works regularly in Dallas with principal coach Hank Hammett, and spends much of her time in New York, where she studies with Irene Gubrud. |
